I quit. If we were to have another day like today our carpets would need to be replaced and Sophie would get a bladder infection.
You can lead a child to the toilet but you can't make her potty.
She stayed dry again all night and held it for a couple of hours in the morning...At least 13 hours! I could tell she had to go. She was holding her legs tightly together and she was dancing. I managed to get her to sit on the potty a couple of times but she wouldn't go. Finally she emptied her whole bladder on the carpet. Then I had to take her to a MOPS steering team meeting. She went there. She went several times after that when we got home. Enough. I guess she's just not ready.
I guess I'm being taught a lesson in humility. I've looked at many kids and thought they were too old to be wearing diapers, sucking on a pacifier, riding in a stroller, etc. I thought their moms were doing something wrong. Maybe they were, but maybe they just had stubborn kids.
I tend to push myself very hard and it's difficult to have this child in my care that I can't mold to achieve goal that I set. She's her own little person. I sometimes feel that maybe I've missed out on some things because I've been too busy trying to achieve something in an arbitrary time frame. Maybe it would be better for Sophie to enjoy life a little more. It certainly isn't right to push her into something for the sake of my own pride.

Sophia Update - Potty Training Day 3
Sophie woke up mostly dry. Her pants were slightly wet, but it didn't go through to her jammies.
She refused to sit on her cushy potty.
She didn't go until about 10:30. She was playing outside with daddy and she said she had to go several times. She came inside and went up to the potty but wouldn't sit on it. Finally she went in her pants and she was upset because her blue jeans and shoes got wet.
A little after 1:00, after lunch, she started to tinkle a little bit. She said "Go potty" and I whisked her away to her little toilet. She wouldn't go. I brought down her cushy toilet. She put her piggy on the little toilet and she climbed up on the big one. She said "I go potty" several times and she got up and down. Finally she went! I opened the door when I heard it to make sure she wasn't peeing on the floor. She smiled real big. I closed the door again until she was done and then we had a celebration complete with treats. I think it is wrong to use food as a reward, but Sophie is a good eater, highly motivated by food, so I guess it's not the end of the world if she gets a couple of M&Ms.
She woke up from her nap dry but didn't want to sit on the potty. I gave her some juice and right away she started to go. The rest of the afternoon and evening didn't go any better. Lots of accidents and no mention that she wanted to go to the potty.
Very frustrating. And always I get stories from other moms about how their girls in particular potty trained themselves. Just once I wish that I didn't have to work so hard for something.

Sophia Update - Potty Training Day 2
We learned that Sophie can hold her potty for a long, long time. She woke up dry and didn't go until about 10:30. She had several accidents throughout the day, always when I wasn't looking directly at her. But, she stayed dry during a birthday party and a walk to the park. She told me once that she had to go at the birthday party but she wouldn't go on the potty there. She told me again when we got home and she ended up going. She was distracted though because she had a lolly pop that she had gotten as a party favor. She went a couple of times standing on the stair of the potty. It was a mess, but she went and she was approximately in the right place. She ended up making poopies in the bathtub.
I think the Dr. Phil method of taking her back to the accident spot and then to the potty might work a little bit. I was concerned about it because Sophie often resists the exercise. But, when she says she has to go potty, she uses the same tone of voice that I use when we're doing the exercise.
She won't go on her little potty. She prefers the cushy potty with a ladder that sits on the real potty.

Sophia Update - Potty Training Day 1
We started our third attempt at potty training today. Sophie is 2 years and 4 months old.
We tried once when she was 18 months old. I wanted to see if I was one of the lucky ones with an easy to potty train child. I wasn't. We tried for two weeks. As soon as I would hear a little peep from her I would get her out of bed and rush her to the potty, or if I saw her making poopies I would rush her to the potty. She went on the potty several times, but she wasn't ever happy about it.
We tried again when she was two. This time I put her in panties to make it uncomfortable for her to go in her pants. After many accidents I decided she wasn't ready because she didn't really even have the vocabulary at that point to talk about potty.
And now we are trying again. She hasn't worn a diaper since we began this morning, not even to sleep. That's not to say we've had any success. Her grandma is here visiting and she showed Sophie's doll how to use the potty, even using some refried beans as poopies. She presented Sophie with a present of My Little Pony and Disney Princesses panties. I had a little trouble even getting Sophie to sit on the potty which hadn't been a problem before. Maybe there was too much of an audience this time. Finally she sat there and didn't produce anything.
She stood on the chair facing the sink and told me she wanted some grapes. As soon as I was distracted she started to pee. I grabbed her and took her to the potty but she didn't go anymore. I figured she was done, and we wanted to see if the thrift store on base was open so I went upstairs to get Sophie some shoes and jeans and when I came downstairs she told me she had wet pants.
After our outing to the thrift store grandma and Sophie went to the park. At the park she looked right at grandma and made poopies and pee.
A couple of hours later she peed a little bit in the corner of the kitchen while I was watching. I rushed her to the potty and she didn't go anymore.
I put her down for her nap with panties on and she woke up dry and didn't go anymore until around six. I had gone to walking group and left Sophie with grandma and daddy. She had been playing in the bathroom for a long time when I got home and I said she could come out. I was putting my coat away and she peed a little bit in the entry way. I took her to the potty but she didn't go anymore.
Each time after she would have an accident we would take her to the spot of the accident and then to the potty 10 times according to Dr. Phil's potty train in a day method. Didn't work. Most of the time she got upset. She had fun the time after she went at the park and I took her from the open front door to the potty. She even started saying, "Grandma, I have to go potty." A little later she said, "Go potty," and I thought we'd had a breakthrough but there were no results.
So much for potty training in a day. After our prior experiences, I was pretty sure it wouldn't work in just a day. So, we'll see. I put her to bed in panties so I'll probably be up in the night changing sheets. Not sure how we'll handle outings. She has a birthday party tomorrow and I have a MOPS meeting on Monday and I'm sure it will take longer than that. Mary wanted to bet me that Sophie will be potty trained before Riley. Not sure it will happen. Riley already pees on the potty.
At the end of this day I feel frustrated.
